{"id":17387,"date":"2026-09-03T08:59:57","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T08:59:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cyber40.it\/zoomel-supporting-melanoma-prevention-and-diagnosis-through-artificial-intelligence\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T09:00:35","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T09:00:35","slug":"zoomel-supporting-melanoma-prevention-and-diagnosis-through-artificial-intelligence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cyber40.it\/en\/zoomel-supporting-melanoma-prevention-and-diagnosis-through-artificial-intelligence\/","title":{"rendered":"ZOOMel &#8211; Supporting Melanoma Prevention and Diagnosis Through Artificial Intelligence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The prevention and monitoring of melanoma are becoming an increasing priority for health care systems, given the rising incidence of this particularly aggressive disease, which is characterized by a high mortality rate.  <\/p>\n\n<p>To improve patients\u2019 chances of survival, it is crucial to intervene early through <strong>effective prevention strategies and innovative diagnostic tools<\/strong> that enhance the diagnosis and management of skin lesions over time.<\/p>\n\n<p>Currently, clinical practice relies primarily on the analysis of dermatological and dermoscopic images. While this noninvasive diagnostic method provides a high level of detail, it requires specialized expertise and presents <strong>certain challenges<\/strong>, including the subjective component associated with variability in interpretation by the specialist.<\/p>\n\n<p>To overcome these limitations, &#8220;<strong>ZOOMel<\/strong>&#8221; was launched\u2014a project co-funded by Cyber 4.0 and coordinated by <a href=\"https:\/\/formit.org\"><strong>the FORMIT Foundation<\/strong><\/a> in collaboration with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unint.eu\">the University of International Studies in Rome<\/a><\/strong> and IDI IRCCS.      <\/p>\n\n<p>The project develops solutions based on artificial intelligence\u2014and, in particular, on deep learning systems\u2014to <strong>support the analysis of dermatological and dermoscopic images for the purpose of monitoring melanoma.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The system allows medical specialists to track changes in skin lesions over time using images captured even with smartphones, while also encouraging patients to take a more active role in monitoring their own health and supporting physicians in their clinical observations.<\/p>\n\n<p>A <strong>key feature<\/strong> of the project is the integration of images with structured clinical data\u2014such as age, sex, skin type, and lesion characteristics\u2014to improve the quality, accuracy, and reliability of the analysis.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Innovation and key technologies<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deep Learning Models for the Analysis of Dermatological and Dermoscopic Images <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blockchain technologies for the management and portability of clinical data <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Steganography techniques for protecting sensitive information associated with images<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Scope of application<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Healthcare Facilities for the Assessment of Skin Lesions in Oncology <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dermatology clinics for monitoring skin lesions <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Telemedicine services to support remote monitoring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyber40.it\/en\/funded-projects\/\">Co-funded by Cyber 4.0<\/a><\/strong>, ZOOMel helps <strong>improve melanoma prevention and monitoring processes<\/strong> by promoting the integration of clinical expertise and artificial intelligence tools to support medical practices.<\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The prevention and monitoring of melanoma are becoming an increasing priority for health care systems, given the rising incidence of this particularly aggressive disease, which is characterized by a high mortality rate.
