Goal: The creation of curricula, training, and skills development for young people attending ITS in order to boost the digitization process of Italian manufacturing facilities

Association Network Foundation ITS Italy-established in 2016 to support and promote the development of the ITS system in Italy and create an international system of Technology Campuses geared toward specialized technical training for young people-has signed a framework agreement of collaboration with Italy’s eight Competence Centers-ARTES 4.0, BI-REX, CIM 4.0, Cyber 4.0, MADE, Meditech, SMACT and Start 4.0-for the development of shared programs of study, training and skills development in order to boost the digitization process of Italian production facilities.

Through this collaboration, curricula will be launched that will enable young people attending ITS to acquire the specific skills and professionalism that the Competence Center network is able to provide them with; training and professional development programs will also be organized. To bring students closer to the labor market, internships at the Competence Centers and their partner companies will also be activated. In addition, all collaborative opportunities will be developed to improve the educational offerings made available to young people so that they can better cope with the socioeconomic changes that the 4.0 technological revolution has initiated.

In Italy, as of today, there are 109 ITS, non-university tertiary training institutes, which respond to the ever-increasing demand for new technological and specialized skills from companies aiming to improve and strengthen processes of innovation and digital transformation. They are currently divided into six technological areas: Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Mobility, New Technologies of Life, New Technologies for Made in Italy (Agrifood System, Home System, Mechanical System, Fashion System, Business Services), Innovative Technologies for Cultural Heritage and Activities – Tourism, Information and Communication Technologies). Most of them are located in Lombardy (20); followed by Campania and Sicily (9); Latium (8); Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont, Tuscany and Veneto with 7; Apulia with 6; Calabria and Abruzzo with 5; Marche, Liguria, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Sardinia with 4; only one Foundation is present in Molise, Umbria and Basilicata. Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont and Lombardy are the regions to have at least one ITS Foundation in all technological areas.

Alessandro Mele, President Association Network of ITS Foundations Italy said, “The agreement signed with the Competence Center Network is intended to be an accelerator for building the technological identity of ITS. This collaboration can bring many development opportunities for the ITS Foundations that are members of the Association, but what we value most is the important increase in skills and opportunities made available to our students.”
