Cyber 4.0 Roadshow – Third Stage Report
L’Aquila – Dec. 16, 2022
Confindustria L’Aquila – Nucleo Industriale Campo di Pile Location
CYBER 4.0 – Cybersecurity Competence Center on tour: a roadshow that is touching all Italian regions and bringing together local communities of industries, technology providers and law enforcement to discuss cybersecurity and cybercrime.
An initiative created to foster Information Sharing and the exchange of knowledge and best practices, to facilitate the adoption of common tools and procedures, to strengthen capabilities, and-ultimately-to build a trusted ecosystem that can address the ever-growing threats in cyberspace.
This week we were in L’Aquila, thanks to the collaboration with DIH – Digital Innovation Hub Abruzzo Match 4.0 and Confindustria Training Systems. The initiative, titled “Cybersecurity for SMEs in the Abruzzo Region – Strategic Context and Opportunities for Development,” was created to inform small and medium-sized enterprises and businesses in the region about the risks arising from cyber attacks, which have been significantly exacerbated in recent times, and the defense systems to be implemented. The goal is to consolidate the level in local communities and encourage the growth of the culture on cybersecurity in the area.
At this stage, in addition to Bruno Guardiani, Coordinator DIH Abruzzo – Match 4.0, we were honored with the presence of Gian Mauro Placido, Director of the Compartimento Polizia Postale e delle Comunicazioni Abruzzo and Alessandro Clementi, Head of Nucleo Operativo Sicurezza Cibernetica Abruzzo, with extremely interesting speeches on the state of the art of the needs of SMEs and the threat levels to which they are subjected.
In particular, the Postal Police delved into the protection criteria, asset security and skill enhancement of any operator using any networked tool, emphasizing that the biggest point of vulnerability, despite huge investments in hardware and software architectures, remains the human factor.
It also became abundantly clear that in the face of legislation that is now ripe for the suppression of cybercrime, no matter how much action can be taken in the detection of fraudulent behavior perpetrated by domestic and international hackers, it remains extremely difficult to track down the perpetrators. The only way to bring down the incidence of damage caused by attacks in the cyberspace, which can be extremely significant, is to work on raising awareness on the part of SME entrepreneurs, who have appropriate technical solutions and training tools at their disposal. As for the expense to be incurred in order to align with best practices and drastically lower the level of risk to which their organization is subjected, it turned out that with low investments, which are moreover co-financed by MIMIT – Ministry of Business and Made in Italy through Cyber 4.0 and partly recognized as tax relief, they are able to achieve considerable improvements in their exposure to Cyber threats.
Matteo Lucchetti, Operations Director of Cyber 4.0, focused his speech on these tools (Training, Orientation, Cyber Assesment), clarifying how to activate them and launching an appeal to Abruzzo SMEs to contact the Cyber 4.0 Team for any kind of support (cyber@Cyber40.it or through the information form on the website).
Next, Confindustria Training Systems consultants simulated different hacker penetration methodologies in live mode, showing how easily one can be the target of attack if one does not know the elementary paradigms related to cybersecurity.
