A Vademecum for SMEs, work of Cyber 4.0 and Unindustria

A Vademecum on cybersecurity for SMEs, the result of collaboration with Unindustria’s Cybersecurity Technical Group.

Cyber 4.0 presented its work on June 6, 2023 at the Cyber 4.0 Forum, discussing it together with the Chairman of Unindustria’s Cybersecurity Technical Group, Lorenzo Benigni, and the Chairman of the Small Industry Committee, Fausto Bianchi.

The Document, available here., offers support for Small and Medium Enterprises to approach the world of cybersecurity.

In Italy, more than 99 percent of companies are micro, small or medium-sized, and 97 percent of them have adopted one or more internally managed digital systems . More than a quarter of them suffered cyber attacks in 2022, disrupting their operations for longer or shorter periods of time. According to an ENISA study on an EU basis, in the vast majority of cases (+80 percent) the primary channel through which the attack towards SMEs is conveyed is through social engineering.

In a path of growing awareness of the key role cybersecurity plays in the digital transition that all businesses are going through, the countermeasures taken by SMEs are beginning to increase in number and are mainly oriented toward preventive actions and basic technology equipment to monitor and counter threats.

The Vademecum is based on the work carried out by theEuropean Cybersecurity Agency (ENISA) in identifying best practices for cybersecurity in SMEs.

ENISA has identified 12 steps for safer business, which form the basis for this Vademecum, which provides some background and implementation notes that can be immediately used by small and medium-sized Italian companies.

The document also received important endorsement from the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy and the European Cybersecurity Agency (ENISA).
