Cyber 4.0

Cyber 4.0 is the National Highly Specialized Competence Center for Cybersecurity, one of the 8 highly specialized competence centers established and co-funded by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.

Launched within the Industry 4.0 framework, the Centre is now recognised as Italy’s national technology transfer hub and serves as the implementing body of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) on behalf of MIMIT (Mission 4, Component 2, Investment 3).

Cyber 4.0 is a private-law association built on a broad public–private partnership that reflects the entire national cybersecurity ecosystem. More than 40 key national players take part, including universities and research bodies, public institutions, major companies, foundations, and highly specialised SMEs.

mission

Cyber 4.0’s mission is to support policy makers, businesses, and public administrations on a path of growth towards secure digital transformation. We provide concrete, strategic, and sustainable solutions based on knowledge, innovative technologies, and supporting services developed through the expertise of our network, enhancing Italy’s excellence in the European and international context.

By institutional mandate, the Center offers advisory and training, assessment and test-before-investment services in cybersecurity to Companies and Public Administration, and funds research and innovation projects, both in the context of core activities and in specific vertical contexts: Healthcare, Automotive and Aerospace.

To support technological testing and experiential training activities, Cyber 4.0 leverages both its own infrastructure, including the T4 demo lab, and facilities made available by its members.

The broad spectrum of expertise covered also enables CYBER 4.0 to present itself as an entity capable of delivering qualified business services in response to specific market needs, both in the domestic and international context.

The Center serves as the coordinator of the NEST (Network for European Security and Trust) initiative, which has received the Seal of Excellence from the European Commission for the creation of a European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH), set to launch in the first half of 2023 and covering the regions of Lazio, Umbria, and Abruzzo.

The Center is also a partner of two newly established Emerging Technology Houses in Cagliari and Pesaro.

In addition, the Center engages with key international networks that strengthen cybersecurity capabilities (e.g., EU CyberNet, GFCE, ECSO, Global Cyber Alliance) and contributes to the implementation of EU-funded projects under both the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe programmes.

Cyber 4.0 fosters business networking, matchmaking and open innovation activities in cybersecurity at the national level, and is a liaison for SMEs and institutions in the area to national and EU institutions working in the field of cyber security, first and foremost the National Cybersecurity Agency and the European Cybersecurity Agency (ENISA).
